Brazil's Water Cycle

Effects of Deforestation on the Water Supply

The trees of the Amazon rainforest are critical to Brazil’s water supply. Through the process of transpiration, trees ensure water enters our atmosphere and in turn produces clouds and rain.

Without trees, transpiration does not happen, which means little to no rain. Brazil is feeling the effects of deforestation on its water supply, especially in São Paulo where there are ration mandates that leave residents with access to water only two days a week.

The Nature Conservancy is working to stop deforestation AND implement reforestation efforts across Brazil, protecting our air and our water.
